Certified compostable products are made from plant-based materials that come from the earth and break down back into the earth, creating a circular, regenerative solution that aids the environment. To earn third-party certification, entities like BPI, Compost Manufacturing Alliance, and TÜV OK Compost test the products to verify that they break down into non-toxic compounds, such as CO₂ and water, within a set timeframe, usually 90 days, in commercial composting facilities. Although proper disposal is necessary to ensure full circularity, because they are made from natural materials compostable products offer a far better solution for the health of the planet and consumers.
