Better Earth is excited to announce our newest team member, Blair Michal!

Blair Michael, Better Earth Partner Advocate

Where are you from and how does that place influence who you are now?

I’m from Clarkesville, a small town in Northeast Georgia. Growing up in the mountains, I knew that I wanted to help preserve and promote our wild places. I saw that through regenerative agriculture we can save our planet and feed our people—especially rural America.

Growing up Appalachian, we are inherently resourceful and surprisingly sustainable. I wanted to also preserve and promote our culture and traditions in hopes to encourage others to live a more simple, sustainable way of life.

Most warm weekends you can find me camping, hiking, and mountain biking with my adventure buddy Burton.

We know you love the outdoors. Where are some of your favorite places to adventure in Georgia?

Rabun County, GA! Everything an outdoorsman could ever want—mountains, rivers, lakes, hiking, camping, fishing, mountain biking, off-roading, white water rafting, 20+ waterfalls to explore, and more.

What brought you to Better Earth?

My background in composting. I saw the role compostable packaging played in making composting more accessible. Some people still have negative connotations about composting, but not the food they know and love. Compostable packaging leads to education, legislation, and more composting infrastructure.

My happy place—the garden. My family’s summer garden where we grow over 25 different varieties of produce.

You’re Better Earth’s first Partner Advocate, and will be engaging, educating and empowering customers, the broader Better Earth Team, and our community partners alike around our shared sustainability goals. What excites you the most about the role?

I’m excited to get to come to work every day and use my passion for the planet and people to connect with the Better Earth community (and the community at large) to help them reach their sustainability goals.

I am also excited to work for a company making sustainability more accessible!

What role does food, and foodservice packaging, play in your life?

A huge one! As someone who grows and gathers their own food, I see the value and healing food can bring to our planet. I also see the systems failing our food right now. Regenerative agriculture truly is my passion.

Making healthy food, grown or raised with healthy practices,   is the answer (and a really exciting one).

I also just get a thrill sorting through trash to help divert from landfills. You learn so much about our society and solutions from the food packaging in there.

What advice do you have for our community around closing the loop on their packaging waste?

View everything as a resource.

Composting is one of the greatest ways to build soil, which we have very little of left, and each member of our community has a role to play and resource to contribute in that closed loop cycle.

Anything else you’d like to share?

I look forward to making the world a place we want to live—together.
